Usage Tips[]
As the baseline for Defense Type weapons the Long Sword and its variations are rather balanced with few notable features. Since it doesn't specialize in any particular field it will fulfill its use equally well in most situations in the form of dealing reasonable damage in a dynamic fighting style.
The heavy attacks, as with most weapons, are defining for the application of the weapon:
The base attack is best used when surrounded by opponents. The wide swinging motion combined with the forward movement and the high range can cover a decent area and cause a lot of disruption by knocking opponents away. The provided Super Armor allows for reliability, as well as trading with other opponents rushing in. Note that the forward movement, while useful to stay in motion and possibly evade attacks, may not always be desirable like when capturing a base or a flag while defending against incoming attacks. In these situations other weapons with stationary moves that grant Super Armor may be favorable.
The combo usually launches opponents too far away to make follow-up reliable unless the target can be knocked into a wall or similar obstacle. On the flip side, the high launch distance allows the user to displace opponents into hazards or just to gain some distance from the target.
, if fully utilized, allows for the most damaging strings, since it leads to any variation of the aerial combos.
The aerial version of can be used as a combo starter, finisher and extender depending on the position and the combo counter. Because the move slams airborne opponents to the ground it is most effective over bottomless pits, but even using it to send opponents to the bottom of particularly tall walls can leave them in a vulnerable position, as they lose time returning to the battle. The most common use, however, will be to slam an opponent into the ground from just slightly above the ground to have them bounce off for follow-up attacks.
